My 1/2 Iron Man

This past weekend David did his first triathlon. He did the half iron man in Las Vegas, that's a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a 13.2 mile run... go big or go home, right?

We drove to Las Vegas on Friday and before we even got to the hotel we were out driving the bike coarse. This bike coarse is particularly hard due to miles and miles of steep up hill. I am not sure driving the coarse was very reassuring for him. :)

Friday night we met up with a group of friends who were also racing. There were 4 athletes in our group and plenty of cheerleaders.

Race day started with the news that the swim had been cancelled due to the high winds and cold temperature. Well, the high winds made the bike ride extra difficult but David tackled it like a champ! There were no road closures so were able to drive on the bike coarse to cheer them on every 10 miles or so.  It was really fun to be out on the coarse and cheer as he flew by!

After the intense 56 mile bike ride he started on the 13.1 mile run.  Because the run was 6.5 miles out and 6.5 miles back we weren't able to cheer him on, so we anxiously awaited at the finish line.

After, a quick half marathon David crossed the finish line. It was so fun to see him finish the race, he did such an awesome job. I'm so proud of him!

Lucky number 15!
